U.S. President Barack Obama is preparing to deliver an important speech regarding the Iran nuclear deal on Wednesday, with the White House saying the president is going to compare the congressional vote on the deal to the vote to begin the Iraq War.

The White House announced Wednesday that during his speech at American University in Washington, the president is going to say that the congressional vote on the Iran deal is "the most consequential foreign policy debate since the decision to go to war in Iraq."

The White House added that the president would "point out that the same people who supported war in Iraq are opposing diplomacy with Iran, and that it would be an historic mistake to squander this opportunity" to take this nuclear deal.

On Tuesday, the president met with U.S. Jewish leaders to tell them that it was likely Israel could be caught up in a military battle if the nuclear deal with Iran was blocked.

Greg Rosenbaum, one of the Jewish leaders who met with the president, said achieving the nuclear deal would result in safety for Israel.

"He said military action by the United States against Iran's nuclear facilities is not going to result in Iran deciding to have a full-fledged war with the United States," Rosenbaum, of the National Jewish Democratic Council, told Israel Radio after the meeting.

"'You'll see more support for terrorism. You'll see Hezbollah rockets falling on Tel Aviv.' This is what he said would happen if the U.S. had a military strike on Iran," Rosenbaum added.
