Oprah credits T.D. Jakes' sermon for helping her in 'lowest' point of her life
American media tycoon and talk show host Oprah Winfrey revealed that a sermon by Bishop T.D. Jakes helped her when she was at the lowest point of her life.
On Oct 26, Jakes went on Twitter to share his sermon titled "Save The Scraps," which Winfrey retweeted to her 34 million followers, declaring, "This sermon helped me when I was at my lowest!"
In his sermon, Jakes stated that the best miracles in life take time and do not come according to a person's needs or hunger. He added that a person must be structured first in order to be prepared to receive God's gifts.
"Just because you've got a driving need does not mean you can disperse with the order and the time and the structure that is necessary to hold the weight of what God is going to do. Some people are so busy trying to get what God has that they don't provide the structure that is necessary to sustain what they have been given," Jakes said in his sermon.
Winfrey has previously expressed her respect for the bishop and even consulted him about her TV church drama "Greenleaf" prior to its release earlier this year. The show focuses on the flaws of Bishop James Greenleaf who runs a corporate megachurch in Memphis, Tennessee.
Last May, Winfrey stated that she called Jakes to assure him that Greenleaf is not based on him and the only resemblance is that both of them use the title "bishop."
In September, Jakes premiered his syndicated talk show called the "T.D. Jakes Show" on the Oprah Winfrey Network. The show tackles subjects such as interracial marriage and families divided by race, religion and politics. He said that the show could also delve into topics like the Black Lives Matter Movement and the sexual assault case of comedian Bill Cosby.
Jakes stated that he is pleased to be featured on Winfrey's network. "Oprah Winfrey is an icon and a business mogul who has become a national treasure. I consider her a personal friend and I'm honored to have her support my new show," he said.
