Oregon Shooting Survivor 'Fairly Upset' Over Ben Carson Remarks

A survivor of the recent Oregon school shooting has said he takes offense to recent comments made by 2016 presidential hopeful Ben Carson regarding the recent school shooting.

Mathew Downing, one of the students who survived last Thursday's shooting, recently told CNN that he is upset by the retired neurosurgeon's comments.

"I'm fairly upset he said that. Nobody could truly understand what actions they would take like that in a situation unless they lived it," Downing told the media outlet in a recent interview.

Downing was reportedly singled out by the 26-year-old shooter, Chris Mercer-Harper, as the one who would reportedly give police an envelope, thus sparing his life.

Carson made headlines earlier this week by suggesting that if he were in a shooting situation, he would attack the gunman.

"Not only would I probably not cooperate with him, I would not just stand there and let him shoot me, I would say, 'Hey guys, everybody attack him. He may shoot me, but he can't get us all,'" Carson, recently said on Fox News.

Following the tragedy, Douglas County District Attorney Rick Wesenberg has commemorated two plainclothes officers who were the first to arrive at the scene of the shooting and exchanged gunfire with Harper-Mercer, before the suspect took his own life.

"I want everyone to know of the selfless acts of these officers," the district attorney said in a statement. "They had little regard for their own personal safety and they saved many, many lives that day with their heroic acts."
