Pastor Davey Blackburn misconstrued pool of blood from wife's gunshot wounds as miscarriage

Indiana pastor Davey Blackburn didn't know that his then 28-year-old pregnant wife, Amanda, was murdered and only thought she had a terrible miscarriage. Less than a year after, Blackburn still chooses to worship just as he did while her wife was fighting for her life.

The young widower and single father relates the tragedy as he joins NewSpring's series "You've Got What It Takes." He shares the stage with Pastor Perry Noble and recounts the horrendous tale of Nov. 10, 2015 when it all happened. When he came home from the gym, Blackburn found his wife lying on the floor in a pool of blood. He thought the blood was from a miscarriage and only found out when he was told at the hospital that they were actually gunshot wounds. Blackburn attributes his not knowing about this to God's grace.

He says it was during these moments of distress and helplessness that he and his relatives chose worship over worry. They thought worry will not do anything for their situation and so they didn't. Instead, they sang songs of worship while at the hospital and just prayed hard for Amanda to survive. "I prayed with the doctors, I was like Lord you're going to perform a miracle you're going to bring her back right now and this whole hospital is going to experience revival," Blackburn recalls.

He also recites 2 Chronicles 20:12, "We don't know what to do but our eyes are on you." The pastor says this verse has served as their running theme especially during those critical hours when the doctors worked on Amanda to check her brain activity.

According to local reports, three young men broke in while Amanda was home with the couple's 15-month-old son. A "cooperating individual" reportedly came forward to the police with information that one of the suspects revealed to him that Amanda put up a fight and so she was shot during the burglary. The suspects have already been arrested and are facing multiple criminal charges including the murder of Amanda.
