Planned Parenthood Says Private Analysis Finds Videos Were 'Manipulated'
The Planned Parenthood Federation of America argued this week that videos released by the Center for Medical Progress aimed at damaging the abortion provider have been "manipulated" and therefore cannot be used as evidence against the organization.
The abortion provider gave the results of the video analysis, carried out by private research company Fusion GPS, to members of Congress, as well as a committee angled at investigating whether Planned Parenthood has broken any laws.
A committee was assembled to investigate the abortion provider after the Center for Medical Progress activist group released multiple "undercover" videos, some of which showed Planned Parenthood executives discussing the costs associated with the procurement of aborted fetal tissue.
This led some lawmakers to accuse the abortion provider of committing the felony act of profiting from human tissue, although Planned Parenthood has repeatedly denied this claim.
The analysis of the videos by Fusion GPS argued that "a thorough review of these videos in consultation with qualified experts found that they do not present a complete or accurate record of the events they purport to depict."
Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards said in a cover letter accompanying the analysis that the videos were "heavily edited to deceive the public."
"We've said all along that these videos were heavily edited to deceive the public, and that's what this expert analysis now shows," Richards said in a statement. "The more the public learns about this fraudulent, baseless attack on women's health, the better, and that's why today we're laying everything out for leaders in Congress and for the public."
