Queen of England Warns Scots To 'Think Very Carefully' About Independence
The Queen of England has reportedly spoken out on Scottish independence, encouraging Scots to "think very carefully" about their country's future ahead of this week's independence vote.
In her first statement on the issue, Queen Elizabeth II managed to stay neutral on the subject, rather saying: "I hope people will think very carefully about the future." The queen reportedly made her comment while leaving a Sunday morning church service at near her Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire.
Although the Queen must respect her constitutional requirement to remain neutral in such political issues, her brief and rare statement on Sunday has been seen by anti-independence campaigners as a boost for their side.
British Prime Minister David Cameron is reportedly visiting Scotland this week in an attempt to persuade the country to vote against Scottish independence. According to The Guardian, statements from Cameron's speech released early state that Scotland's independence 'is a once-and-for-all decision. If Scotland votes yes, the UK will split, and we will go our separate ways for ever."
The vote for Scottish independence is supposed to take place Thursday, with polls showing the issue almost divided exactly by 50 percent. If it were to split, Scotland would gain stronger possession of its oil rich coasts, but may lose use of the pound currency, forcing it to use the weaker Euro.
Queen Elizabeth II has remained fairly quiet on the upcoming Independence vote, although the Queen has often been viewed as having a special adoration for Scotland, spending many of her vacations in the Scottish countryside.
