Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice recently spoke out on the aftermath of his domestic abuse scandal, saying he made a "horrendous mistake" at a May press conference when he failed to apologize to his wife.

Rice, who was let go from the Baltimore Ravens earlier this year, recently held an interview with NBC's Matt Lauer for the "Today" show. In the interview, Rice discussed the May press conference in which he addressed a surveillance video that showed him punching and knocking out his wife in an Atlantic City elevator back in February.

The former NFL player blamed his "horrendous mistake" of not apologizing to his wife on the Baltimore Ravens organization, saying the NFL team gave him a script to follow ahead of the press conference.

"When we was going in, we were given what to speak about. It wasn't truly coming from us," Ray told Lauer.

During the interview, which took place in Rice's kitchen, the running back was accompanied by his wife, Janay Palmer, and Janay's parents. Rice told Lauer that he hopes to once again play in the NFL, saying he hopes the organization can "look deeper into who I am and realize that me and my wife had one bad night, and I took full responsibility for it."

"And one thing about my punishment and everything going along with anything that happened is that I've accepted it," he told Lauer. "I went fully forward with it. I never complained, or I never did anything like that. I took full responsibility for everything that I did, and the only thing I can hope for and wish for is a second chance."
