Rob Bell gets behind #30secondBible campaign to help people engage with Scripture
Thirty Seconds or Less has launched the #30secondBible campaign in an attempt to help people engage in the Bible during Lent and beyond.
Pastor Rob Bell is one church leader giving his endorsement to the initiative that aims to make it easier for people to connect and engage with the word of God, most especially the parts people often avoid.
The 30 Second Bible Series campaign feature lots of unique voices on Genesis to Revelation reflecting on the stories and good news they contain.
Bell for one will be running a series on Leviticus as part of the campaign. Other contributors include Brian McLaren, Diana Butler Bass, James Martin and Carol Howard Merritt.
The director of the project, Jim Kast-Keat told Christian Today that he thinks there are two reasons Christians struggle to read the Bible and absorb its content: it's too long and oftentimes perceived as irrelevant.
Leviticus, he thinks, is a good example of a book in the Bible that people might not want to read page after page. But as the name suggests, the 30 Second Bible Series is about engaging with the Bible thirty seconds at a time.
Kast-Keat said #30SecondBible attempts to resolve two problems in one go, by telling the good news through faith leaders and modern-day voices helping people to better comprehend and access the Bible. Furthermore, he hopes that this series would spark people's thirst for the Bible.
However, he said the campaign does not aim to substitute comprehensive Bible study. Rather it paves the way towards deep engagement with the word of God.
The series uses video podcasts and its Kast-Keat's hope that people will respond to them by opening their Bibles to read the whole book.
