A South Carolina pastor has recalled to local media outlets of a recent encounter with 2016 presidential runner Hillary Clinton, saying he was "impressed" with Clinton's knowledge of Scripture.

The Rev. Frederick Donnie Hunt of Columbia's First Calvary Baptist Church recalled a recent impromptu run-in he had with the former First Lady while she visited Main Street Bakery in Columbia, South Carolina earlier this week.

Hunt told CNN in a recent interview that the former Secretary of State struck up a conversation with him because of the Bible he was reading, asking him what verse he was studying.

Clinton and Hunt reportedly then had an in-depth convseration on the "living word" of Scripture and the meaning behind 1 Corinthians 13.

"I was impressed and glad that she knew the scripture that I was reading and studying at the time," Hunt told CNN. "It impressed me that someone running for president has that background. It is important to me that we have a president that has some belief."

Clinton, a member of the United Methodist Church, has previously spoken out about her faith.

The former Secretary of State said at the United Methodist Women Assembly last year that she has "always cherished the Methodist Church because it gave us the great gift of personal salvation but also the great obligation of social gospel."

"And I took that very seriously and have tried, tried to be guided in my own life ever since as an advocate for children and families, for women and men around the world who are oppressed and persecuted, denied their human rights and human dignity," she added.
