Former GOP vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin has spoken out regarding immigration in the U.S., suggesting that immigrants should "speak American."

Palin made her comments in a recent interview with CNN's "State of the Union," saying that although she applauds 2016 presidential hopeful Jeb Bush for his ability to speak Spanish, she thinks all Americans should learn to speak English in an attempt to be more unified.

"It's a benefit of Jeb Bush to be able to be so fluent in Spanish, because we have a large and wonderful Hispanic population that is helping to build America," Palin said on CNN's "State of the Union."

"On the other hand, you know, I think we can send a message and say: 'You want to be in America? A, you better be here legally, or you're out of here. B, when you're here, let's speak American.' I mean, that's just, that's – let's speak English," Palin added.

Palin's comments came after 2016 presidential hopeful Donald Trump took to social media to criticize Bush for speaking Spanish. Bush's wife is from Mexico and also speaks fluent Spanish.

"Jeb Bush is crazy, who cares that he speaks Mexican, this is America, English !!" Trump's recent tweet read.

Trump has also received criticism for previous comments he made regarding immigration in which he suggested that many immigrants from Mexico and Latin countries are drug dealers and rapists.
