Satanic Temple Petitions to Have Statue at Arkansas Capitol Building
The Satanic Temple group has reportedly petitioned to have a statue honoring Satan placed at the Arkansas Capitol grounds after state lawmakers voted to have a Ten Commandments monument placed on the government grounds.
The group, which advocates a separation of church and state, has reportedly filed a petition to have the satanic statue join the Ten Commandments monument on the capitol grounds.
The Ten Commandments monument is funded by a private group.
"Our monument is fully constructed and ready to go. All we need to get is that approval," Lucien Greaves, co-founder of The Satanic Temple, said in a statement, as reported by THV11.
According to the Associated Press, the proposed satanic statue will reportedly be privately funded by the group. The proposed statue will consist of Baphomet, consisting of a goat on a human body with children kneeling on either side of its throne.
According to The Huffington Post, Malcolm Jarry, co-founder of The Satanic Temple, said in a statement this week that the Baphomet statue should fit the same requirements as the Ten Commandments statue.
"We have reviewed SB939, which authorized the placement of a 10 Commandments monument at the Arkansas State Capitol, and the Baphomet statue we would like to contribute shall fulfill the same intended purposes," Jarry said in a statement.
Last month, the Satanic Temple group successfully installed a Baphomet statue in Detroit, Michigan after holding a private ceremony to unveil the controversial monument.
