Seattle Community Rocked By High School Shooting

A high school in Seattle went into lockdown last Friday after reports of a shooter on campus.

A student reportedly opened fire at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, located about 30 miles north of Seattle, on Friday before turning the gun on himself.

Since the shooting, police have confirmed that three people are dead, including the gunman, and that another three had been seriously injured. 

Providence Everett medical center spokeswoman Heidi Amrine told the Associated Press that four students had been brought to the medical facility to be treated for wounds, with three being in very critical condition. One of those students, 14-year-old Gia Soriano, has since died. 

The shooting reportedly broke out at around 10:45 a.m. in the cafeteria, The Seattle Times reported. One student told The Seattle Times that he witnessed the shooter walk over to a table in the cafeteria where a group of students were eating and open fire. Another student said that the shooter was mad because a girl sitting at the table refused to date him; she was one of the people shot in the morning incident.

Marysville Police Commander Robb Lamoureaux confirmed that there was only one shooter and that the shooter was dead. He would not confirm any injuries, saying the situation is still very fluid.

"We are confident that there was only one shooter and that the shooter is dead," Lamoureaux said.

The shooter is said to have been a popular student who was recently nominated as the school's homecoming king.
