'Sleepy Hollow' season 4 spoilers, plot news: Abbie Mills return hinted by Nicole Beharie? World in peril with second witness gone

With Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) apparently gone, the world is bound to witness the seven tribulations unfold in "Sleepy Hollow" season 4.

Abbie was ordained to be the second witness, with Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) being the first. However, now that she's gone, the world could be in big trouble.

It is a mystery how the prophecy will be fulfilled and how the tribulations will be prevented from ever happening with half of Team Witness gone in "Sleepy Hollow" season 4.

Although some fans do not believe that Abbie is permanently dead, the "Sleepy Hollow" cast and crew claim that it is indeed the end of the road for Abbie.

Without Abbie in "Sleepy Hollow" season 4, some viewers threatened to quit watching the show. However, there are rumors that Abbie could be reincarnated at some point in the series.

Since "Sleepy Hollow" could pull that off and still make sense in the story, it is speculated that Beharie's run on the hit series is yet to come to an end.

However, in Beharie's message addressing the character's death, she made it seem like she was not coming back to "Sleepy Hollow" season 4 or any following seasons.

Interestingly, although she said in the message that "Abbie Mills has done all she meant to do," she remarked: "I'm excited about what the show has in store for US next."

Beharie emphasized the word "us," implying that "Sleepy Hollow" hasn't excluded her character yet. She even urged fans to "stay tuned."

Of course, this could mean anything such as a possible hint of her return, an expression of excitement or a tease on what project she will do next after he "Sleepy Hollow" stint. Either way, fans are looking for signs that "Sleepy Hollow" season 4 will still bring Abbie back in the fold to make Team Witness whole again. Although Beharie said her goodbyes in the second part of her message (see below), fans hope that Abbie's journey will continue in "Sleepy Hollow" season 4.

Television shows have lately been ruthlessly killing off major characters or have been cheapening death. At the moment, "Sleepy Hollow" falls on the former.

"Sleepy Hollow" season 4 will premiere on Fox early next year with Ichabod headed to Washington.
