Faster CellPhone Charging: Can SONICable Really Charge Your Phone Twice As Fast?

A SONICable | YAHOO TECH

Tired of charging your phone, which usually takes longer than using up your battery?

Well, one company has decided to end our woes by taking a different approach to the annoying battery problems on iPhones, iPads or any Android handset, for that matter.

SONICable, currently in the process of being crowd-funded through Indiegogo, is a new type of charging cable that promises to charge smartphones faster.

The company explained that cables that charge devices were designed to allow users to charge the battery while at the same time synchronizing data – a task that mostly takes away the power while charging.

Because it has a switch, SONICable claimed it can allow a user to choose whether he or she wants to synch date during charging or simply charge without synching data.

According to the company, this is what makes it charge gadgets twice as fast the common cables being sold in the market right now.

"The cable is the 'world's most advanced charging cable' and charges any device in just half the time of a regular USB cable," Yahoo Tech reported.

The accessory comes with either a Lightning or microUSB connector and features a special switch that, when pressed, ignores sync capabilities in favor of charging the device at maximum power, it added.

Other features include a dual-sided USB port and more durable aluminum connectors and nylon protective material.

Unfortunately, SONICable is not yet available in the market as the company behind it is still currently crowd-funding the cable.

It has already raised almost a hundred U.S. dollars with a funding goal of just $10,000. However, it might cost $27 on Indiegogo and should ship at some point in March 2015.

Kim Komando said after the crowd-funding campaign, the price for a SONICable is expected to shoot up to $36.

But the tech blogger said SONICable makers should be able to answer some more questions before she would be convinced to use the new product on her iPhone.

She claimed that some gadgets are built to handle fast charging, but not all of them. While you can still charge them fast, doing that regularly is going to shorten your battery's lifespan. And too big of a charge at once can risk a fire.

Kim lamented that so far, SONICable still has no information on how its product will affect the phones' life or what safety measures are in place.
