T.D. Jakes Says New Show 'Not Faith-Based'
Well-known megachurch pastor T.D. Jakes has said that his new television show "T.D. Jakes Show" will be open to people of all faiths and background.
In a recent interview with 11Alive News, Jakes, who oversees the Potter's House in Dallas, Texas, said that his new hour-long series will not be a "faith-based show."
"It is not a faith-based show," Jakes told 11Alive. "I have a vehicle through which I can express that. But I cannot deny that when I sit down at the table, all of my faith sits down with me. All of my fatherhood sits down with me. All of my ethnicity sits down with me. I can only give what I am."
"What I want the 'T.D. Jakes Show' to be is that, wherever you are, whatever your belief systems, whatever your background is, there's a place for you," Jakes added.
The new television show is being produced by TEGNA and Debmar Mercury and will undergo a trial run for the next month.
Jakes told WFAA-TV that he feels excited for the show, looking at the new program as a challenge to his usual experience as a preacher and organizer of the annual MegaFest conference.
"It's nice to be challenged again at this stage in my life," he told the local media outlet. "I'm 58 years old and I have the opportunity to do something new and fresh and exciting."
"People tend to define you by how they met you, and they tend to incarcerate you by how they define you," he said. "But, I'm a kind of guy that breaks boundaries and likes to talk about everything and likes to enjoy life and have a lot of fun."
