Two Dead, Two Injured After Suspect Carries Out Sword Attack at Swedish School
Two are dead and two injured after a masked man stormed a Swedish school on Thursday, attacking teachers and students with a sword.
The incident reportedly took place in the western town of Trollhattan when a 21-year-old male, local to the town, entered the cafeteria area at the Kronan School with a sword and began attacking young students and faculty.
The suspect, who was shot by police shortly after his attack began, was reportedly wearing a black mask resembling the one worn by the character Darth Vader in the "Star Wars" movies.
Authorities announced later Thursday that of the four people brought to the hospital for treatment following the attack, one had died. A second victim, a teacher, died at the school following the stabbing.
"One of the four people brought to hospital has died," hospital spokesman Nicklas Claesson said in a statement.
An anonymous female student who allegedly witnessed the bizarre rampage told the Daily Mail that initially, students thought the suspect was wearing a Halloween costume as he walked the school halls carrying a blood-stained knife.
When a teacher asked the suspect to leave the campus, the suspect reportedly attacked.
'He just nodded, then he plunged the large knife into the teacher's right side. The last thing I heard him say was 'call an ambulance,'" one of the students told the media outlet.
Another student at the school told TheLocal.se: "One of my classmates' sisters called her to warn her that there was a murderer at the school. So we locked the door to the classroom, but our teacher was still outside in the corridor. We wanted to warn him, so a few of us went outside and then I saw the murderer, he was wearing a mask and had a sword. Our teacher got stabbed. The murderer started chasing me, I ran into another classroom. If I had not run, I would have been murdered."
