A 22-year-old woman from Pemberton Township in New Jersey has been charged with murder after she set her newborn baby on fire, according to a prosecutor.

Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier of Rutgers Avenue in Pemberton Township is now facing one count of murder and bail has been set at $500,000, Burlington County Prosecutor Robert Bernardi and Pemberton Township Police Chief David Jantas jointly announced on Sunday.

Dorvilier is accused of dousing her baby with accelerant and setting her on fire on Jan. 17 on Simontown Road.

The Pemberton Township Police Department went to the crime scene before 11 p.m. after a resident called about a fire on the road.

The baby was immediately airlifted to Saint Christopher's Hospital in Philadelphia and died two hours later.

Dorvilier was arrested at the scene of the crime and was taken to the Burlington County Corrections and Work Release Center.

A witness, identified as Davis Joseph, said he saw Dorvilier set her baby on fire. "She said it was poop. She said her dog pooped in her car and she was burning the poop on the side of the road," Joseph told NBC10.

He said his wife heard the baby scream.

"And then I slammed the door shut. She tried to run for it. Then I put her to the ground. That's when we saw it was a baby," Joseph added.

Residents created a memorial for the baby at the crime scene, putting toys and ribbon around a tree.

"It's a crazy world. I wish she would have taken better action on it, dropped her off at a hospital or fire company, called the state or police department to take care of the baby," Mount Holly Fire Company Lieutenant Nick Allen told NBC10.

An autopsy on the baby will be done by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood.

The Burlington Prosecutor's Office said details of the baby's birth are being investigated.
