2017 Opel Insignia Grand Sport release date, specs news: All-new executive car unveiled, previews Buick Regal

The all-new Insignia Grand Sport has been officially unveiled. The next-generation executive car built by German automaker Opel is sold under the Vauxhall marquee in the United Kingdom and known as the Buick Regal in North America. It will make its world premiere at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show in March 2017.

The 2017 Insignia Grand Sport is built using a new vehicle architecture that translates to spacious interiors, more athletic dimensions, and improved stance and aerodynamics. Specifically, the new car is 29 mm lower, its track has been increased by 11 mm, and the wheelbase was enlarged by 92 mm. Furthermore, lightweight materials were used leading to the new Insignia Grand Sport to be 175 kg lighter than the outgoing model.

"In its proportions as well as in each detail, we wanted the new Insignia Grant Sport to deliver an upscale quality feel," said Mark Adams, Opel/Vauxhall vice president of design. "Every design feature conveys technical know-how and the utmost precision. The new Insignia Grand Sport is an excellent value proposition with the aura of a car from the premium, upper class."

In terms of design, the 2017 Insignia Grand Sport was inspired by the Monza Concept. The exterior design is highlighted by a lower, more prominent grille that gives a solid stance. The wide horizontal design of the front fascia coupled with the slim headlamps also gives the vehicle a bolder appearance. The coupe-like roofline also comes with a new high-mounted LED stop lamp.

The 2017 Insignia Grand Sport will be powered by a wide range of powertrain options. It also features an all-wheel-drive system with torque vectoring and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The revamped FlexRide chassis comes with three drive modes: Standard, Tour and Sport.

Inside the cabin, there are premium and ergonomic seats with massage, memory and ventilation functions and a heated windshield. The latest generation IntelliLink system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Aside from seamless smartphone integration, customers also gain wireless charging.

Lastly, the 2017 Insignia Grand Sport is also a safer vehicle. Some of the new technologies found in the car are IntelliLux Matrix LED headlights, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

More technical specs and engine variants will be revealed at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March.
