2017 Shelby Super Snake release date, specs, price news: 50th-anniversary model is able to deliver 750 horsepower

Shelby American has unveiled the all-new 2017 Super Snake, a limited-edition model to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its nameplate. Only 500 examples will be made with a reasonable starting price of $69,995 given all the high-performance components featured in the muscle car.

"When Carroll Shelby introduced the Super Snake version of the Ford Mustang in 1967, it earned universal respect for its astonishing capabilities. When Shelby American reintroduced the Super Snake in 2007, the world was awed by the 600+ horsepower street legal muscle car. That tradition continues with our newest Shelby Super Snake, which is better in every way," said Joe Conway, CEO of Shelby American.

The 2017 Shelby Super Snake features an iconic muscle car design. It also receives new body components, specifically the hood, rockers, spoilers, splitters, grilles, fog lights, rear tail panel and rear diffuser. The exterior also comes with 50th-anniversary badges and stripes. The muscle car is also outfitted with 20-inch forged aluminum wheels with Shelby performance tires.

The exclusive theme continues inside with anniversary logos on the seats, dashboard and floor mats. Furthermore, each car will receive a special serial number and a plaque under the hood to signify that it is limited edition.

Shelby also worked with Ford Performance to give the all-new Super Snake sharper handling on the independent suspension and upgraded brakes with large calipers and rotors. The muscle car also receives exclusive spec dampers, sway bars, springs and bushings.

The 2017 Super Snake is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 670 horsepower. With optional superchargers, performance can reach up to 750 horsepower. The engine can also be mated with either a manual or automatic transmission.

When the muscle car is properly optioned, it is able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in just 3.5 seconds.
