2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon release date, specs news: muscle car that outperforms the Hellcat to debut at New York Auto Show
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has announced that the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon will make its global debut at the New York international Auto Show (NYIAS) in April. It is said to be capable of outperforming the most powerful and fastest muscle cars in the world.
"Most cars attempt to be everything to everybody. Then there are the rare few that revel in a single objective, rendering them totally irresistible to a subculture. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is conceived, designed and engineered for a subculture of enthusiasts who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation," said Tim Kuniskis, head of Passenger Car Brands — Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT — FCA North America.
Dodge has not revealed any specific information about the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon but has set up a new website, www.ifyouknowyouknow.com, where updates and teasers will be added weekly to hype up the arrival of the new high-powered muscle car. The first video titled "Cage" shows the muscle car in development at the Dodge Research Lab in Detroit, Michigan and suggests performance like an untamed beast. These teasers are said to highlight the engineering prowess of the muscle car.
According to the press release, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is expected to be more powerful than the Challenger SRT Hellcat and Charger SRT Hellcat. The latter muscle cars are already beasts on the road thanks to a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine that delivers 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.
The name Demon was first introduced to the Dodge lineup in 1971 as a two-door fastback hardtop muscle car. Dodge also developed a roadster concept car called Demon in 2007 but it did not enter mass production.
While details for the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon are scarce for the time being, Kuniskis said that the engine, performance numbers and pricing will all be revealed before the muscle car arrives in the market.
To see what Dodge has in store for car enthusiasts, be sure to check out NYIAS 2017 scheduled for April 14–23.
