2018 Ford F-150 release date, specs, price news: all-new pickup truck comes with tougher looks, new engines, latest technologies
Ford Motors has introduced the 2018 F-150. The best-selling full-size pickup truck has been upgraded to be tougher, smarter and a lot more capable than its predecessors.
"Truck customers are constantly looking to improve their productivity, for work and for play. Since 1977, we've been America's favorite truck, and we've never taken that leadership for granted. This new F-150 is our latest example of Ford's commitment to going further for our customers through continuous innovation," said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president for the Americas.
The 2018 Ford F-150 was built using high-strength, military-grade aluminum alloy for more durability. While this material has led to a reduction in weight, the pickup truck is more capable than ever when it comes to towing heavy trailers and delivering payloads.
Echoing the truck's tougher build are more aggressive design elements. All trims have been given an upgraded front fascia with new grilles and headlamps. At the rear, the truck has gained new bumpers, a more sculpted tailgate and new tail lamp designs. These new features give the 2018 F-150 a wider and more planted stance. Users can also opt for the Lariat trim with the Sport Package for a more athletic appearance.
The 2018 Ford F-150 has also gained the latest technologies like Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go functionality and Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection. The SYNC and SYNC 3 infotainment systems with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi can also be availed with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Other optional driver-assist technologies include a 360-degree camera, a lane-keeping system and Blind Spot Information System.
Last but not the least, the 2018 F-150 has been made more capable by its improved powertrains including the standard 3.3-liter direct-injected V6 engine that delivers 282 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. Customers can also opt for the all-new 3.0-liter Power Stroke V6 turbo diesel engine that is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Automatic start/stop has also been made standard for all models and engines.
The 2018 Ford F-150 will be revealed this Monday, Jan. 9 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The all-new pickup truck will go on sale in the fall. Pricing will be announced at a later date.
