2018 Jaguar F-Type release date, specs news: sports car range updated with GoPro app, more powerful engines, model-specific bumpers
Jaguar has updated the F-Type range for the new model year with more powerful engines, the latest technologies and a few cosmetic upgrades but overall, has retained the two-seat sports car's iconic design.
"Great sports car design is about proportion and purity. The most challenging element of the process for designers is to focus on and maintain an exciting silhouette that promises performance. For the 2018 model year F-TYPE, we looked at how we could fine-tune key details to deliver even more clarity of purpose in the overall design — for the driver, passenger and onlookers," said Ian Callum, director of design for Jaguar.
Since its initial introduction in 2012, the F-Type has become a best-selling sports car due to its enthralling design, unrivaled performance and outstanding driving dynamics. Now, the sports car has been equipped with the latest technologies to further enhance the overall experience.
All new models will be equipped with the Touch Pro infotainment system that provides functions like navigation, real-time traffic updates and live weather reports with superfast tablet-style operation. Car enthusiasts will also get to relive their driving experiences via the world's first ReRun app that combines vehicle performance data with real-time high-quality video obtained from a GoPro action camera.
In terms of design, the F-Type's award-winning design has been made more focused by new full LED headlights, lightweight slimline seats and a new selection of interior finishes and materials.
The 2018 Jaguar F-Type range consists of five vehicles, all available as a coupe or convertible: the standard F-Type, the F-Type R-Dynamic, the F-Type 400 Sport, the F-Type R and the F-Type SVR. The new vehicle range also gains model-specific bumpers so that they are easier to distinguish from afar.
The F-Type 400 Sport has been designed as a launch edition and will only be available for one model year. It is powered by an enhanced 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine that delivers 400 horsepower. It is also equipped with a Super Performance braking system, Configurable Dynamics, 20-inch wheels with a Dark Satin Grey finish and exclusive 400 Sport badging.
Meanwhile, the new R-Dynamic model's supercharged V6 powertrain is able to deliver either 340 or 380 horsepower. It is able to stand out thanks to Gloss Black accents on the front bumper, splitter, bonnet vents, side sills and rear diffuser.
The top-tier F-Type SVR, on the other hand, is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces 550 horsepower or 575 horsepower.
The 2018 Jaguar F-Type will go on sale in the first quarter of 2017. Pricing will be announced closer to the official launch.
