2018 Toyota Camry release date, specs news: all-new midsize sedan arrives with sportier performance, more emotional character
Toyota has raised the bar for the all-new 2018 Camry which was just introduced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The next-generation midsize sedan not only comes with sportier performance and design, but it also gains a more emotional character.
"The all-new 2018 Camry is, without a doubt, the most captivating mid-size sedan we've ever produced. It delivers on everything Camry owners have come to expect from America's best-selling car, and adds to it, jaw-dropping design, more advanced technology, cutting-edge safety systems, and stirring performance that raises it to an unparalleled level of excitement," said Bob Carter, Toyota's senior vice president for automotive operations.
The 2018 Camry was built using the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), which gives the car a more dynamic, athletic and fun-to-drive character. It also has a sleeker profile due to an extended wheelbase and lowered center of gravity. This not only reduced overall weight and improved aerodynamics but it also gave the Camry a stronger and sportier stance.
In terms of design, Toyota's "Keen Look" design philosophy translates to a unique two-piece grille, striking character lines, aggressive fenders in the front. The Camry's athletic appearance is also evident in the rear's sculpted surfaces and flowing lines. It is also highlighted by a newly designed Camry logo that gives the sedan a premium feel.
These design elements make the all-new Camry instantly recognizable and stand out from the crowd.
The 2018 Toyota Camry also comes with a completely redesigned cabin to integrate higher levels of functionality, futuristic styling and more spacious interiors. The sedan has a driver-centric cockpit, a modern and sculpted front console and surfaces that use soft-touch and premium materials. The seats have improved ergonomics for maximum comfort.
The center console has the next-generation Human Machine Interface (HMI) integrated in order to reduce distractions while driving. Information is sent to three interlinked displays: a 10-inch Head-Up display, a 7-inch multi-information display and an 8-inch audio and navigation display with a control panel for heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
The all-new Camry also receives new powertrain options for the new model year. Customers can choose from a new 3.5-liter V6 engine with D-4S fuel injection, a 2.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine mated to an eight-speed Direct-Shift automatic transmission and a Toyota Hybrid System with Continuously Variable Transmission and a new Sport Mode.
When it comes to the driver and passengers' safety, the 2018 Camry comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense P, which includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Automatic High Beams. Toyota's Star Safety System also brings in Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, Anti-lock Braking System and Smart Stop technology. There are also 10 airbags and a rear backup camera.
The 2018 Toyota Camry is slated to arrive at dealerships this summer. Pricing will be announced at a later date.
