ABC's 'Revenge' Tops List of TV Shows Facing Cancellation Due to Declining Ratings
At least 15 TV shows in the U.S. are facing cancellation in the next few weeks as television network executives are about to hand in their verdict after exhaustive reviews of their network's respective programs, industry insiders have revealed.
On top of the list is ABC's "Revenge," which has already been confirmed for cancellation.
It is at this time of the year when announcements are made on what shows will get cancelled to make way for a new crop of series, sources said.
Below is a list of shows that TV industry analysts have predicted as prime bets for cancellation in the next few weeks by network executives:
1. ABC's "Revenge" is out even though it helped rejuvenate ABC during its first season after the network had a string of failed dramas. But the following three seasons saw declining ratings, creative issues and minimal social presence.
2. ABC's "Cristela" is another candidate for cancellation. The show is still waiting for the official announcement on its fate. The ratings may be low, but the Latino fits well into ABC's diversity push, where it has been a leader in broadcast.
3. ABC's "Forever" never really found its audience and it was a surprise that ABC decided to order a full season to start with.
4. CBS' "Battle Creek" started off with so much buzz, but it never translated into ratings.
5. CBS' "Stalker" hasn't become an obsession with viewers. It was pulled off the schedule to make room for another series. It returned on a new night and picked up more viewers, but it may be too late to save itself.
6. CBS' "CSI" may have reached its time to go after 15 seasons and three spinoffs.
7. NBC's "American Odyssey" is its lowest rated show, although it has only been on the air for a few weeks. It has lower ratings than another show, "Allegiance," which NBC pulled from schedule after only five episodes.
8. NBC's "Constantine" has a fanbase pushing for a second season, but NBC has very few reasons to give in.
9. NBC's "About a Boy" was the network's highest rated sitcom in its first season, but it has plummeted in the second season.
10. Fox's "The Weird Loners" is the lowest rated show in its roster and can easily be replaced by a new show in the fall.
11. Fox's "Backstrom" generated a lot of excitement what with "Office" alum Rainn Wilson starring in it, but it failed to find an audience.
12. Fox's "The Following" captured viewer's attention in the first season, but it struggled creatively and lost audience and buzz. Kevin Bacon's dark, violent show might no longer be in vogue at Fox right now.
13. Fox's "The Mindy Project" is loved by critics and stars Mindy Kaling, but ratings are poor. This has been confirmed cancelled but might be picked up by Hulu.
14. CW's "Hart of Dixie" is already just waiting for official confirmation of its cancellation—the show's creator, its stars and its fanbase have already declared the show done.
15. CW's "The Messengers" has only aired for two weeks but it looks to be in cancellation territory already—premiering late and on Friday nights at that.
