Only two episodes in and ABC's Marvel-based series, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." has already put one of its main characters through the wringer.

The first episode saw S.H.I.E.L.D agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) encounter a ghostly woman who seemed to have begun messing up with her mind. The second episode saw this ghost's effect on her escalate to the point of paranoid madness. The preview for the next episode titled, "Uprising," offers no promise of her recovery as both Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and Dr. Holden Radcliffe (John Hannah) are shown struggling to sustain her life in the middle of a sudden global blackout.

But that's not the only challenge that the S.H.I.E.L.D. will have to contend with when the series returns in two weeks. There is also the threat of a radical group wanting to mess up the Inhuman Registrations that Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), and Alphonso "Mack" MacKenzie (Henry Simmons) will be tasked to take care of. This is according to the official episode summary posted by ABC as cited by Flickering Myth.

Another highlight of episode 2 was the introduction of the new S.H.I.E.L.D. director, Jeffrey Mace, played by Jason O'Mara, who turned out to be an inhuman with immense strength able to put a rampaging S.H.I.E.L.D. agent down effortlessly. Since "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." has also been known to tweak familiar characters to fit its narrative goals, fans have been quick to speculate that the new S.H.I.E.L.D. director may well turn out to be the 1940s superhero, the Patriot.

Even though he did seem to have good plans for the organization, he still has a long way to go to earn the entire team's loyalty and trust.

One game-changing moment in episode 2 was when Robbie Reyes, aka Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna), finally relented to Daisy Johnson's (Chloe Bennet) persistent hounding after two full episodes of playing cat and mouse. Daisy wanted to know the truth about him and Robbie was finally ready to tell.

Based on the stills also released by ABC, episode 3 will see more of brotherly interactions between Robbie and his younger brother, Gabe Reyes (Lorenzo James Henrie). The episode will also feature Dr. Radcliffe's Life Model Decoy (LMD), Aida (Mallory Jansen), who was first introduced in episode 1.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will be taking a one-week hiatus and will return on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
