'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 4 spoilers: Senator Nadeer's backstory to be revealed; Daisy gets new love interest?
The third episode of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 4 revealed the Watchdogs, aided by Sen. Nadeer (Parminder Nagra), igniting a national crisis designed to incite hatred against Inhumans.
In "Uprising," the group set off EMPs (electromagnetic pulse) that caused blackouts and halted technology in several major cities. Claiming to be the Inhuman resistance, they announced that they did not want to be registered and merely wanted to live in peace.
But because the blackouts were happening in cities where S.H.I.E.L.D. had moved Inhuman assets, the agents soon figured out what was happening and managed to resolve the situation before the end of the episode.
As it turned out, Sen. Nadeer, whose brother had died during the Terrigenesis process, was secretly helping the Watchdogs and had a deep, personal grudge against the Inhumans.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." executive producer Jed Whedon said the show will reveal what's under Nadeer's hatred of Inhumans, saying, "We'll unpack more of that later, but it's safe to say that she's part of the Humans First movement."
According to Whedon, Sen. Nadeer is a firm believer in humanity and in the notion that humans should be united against a common enemy, i.e. Inhumans.
"We'll unpack why she feels that way and what the story is with her brother later, but she does hold that opinion on a deep level," he added.
Meanwhile, Whedon said fans of the series should stay tuned to see what becomes of Daisy (Chloe Bennet) and Robbie/Ghost Rider's (Gabriel Luna) relationship.
As the "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." boss explained, Chloe was deeply affected by Gabe's (Lorenzo James Henrie) warning that her presence isn't good for his brother.
"[I]t's another blow to Daisy and her emotional makeup," Whedon said. "How they come back together, you'll just have to wait and see," he added.
During the recent New York Comic Con, Bennet acknowledged the fan theory that she and the Ghost Rider could become an item. "As much as I would love Daisy to find a lover, I don't know if that's necessarily in the cards," the actress said.
"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 4 airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
