'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D' season 4B spoilers: EP Jed Whedon talks about Daisy heading the Marvel organization

Daisy (Bennett) in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" promo still | ABC

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" may be soaking up on their yearly midseason hiatus, but the teases for the Marvel TV show never ends with a hint for Daisy's (Chloe Bennett) fate moving forward in the organization.

It is an understatement that the Inhuman had gone through a lot since the dwindling episodes of season 3. From a failed attempt to sacrifice her life to make up for her deeds to going rogue on her own, the come-backing agent is back in the thick of things at S.H.I.EL.D. And it seems like she will be staying there for quite some time in the foreseeable future.

In an exclusive chat with executive producer Jed Whedon with Entertainment Weekly's Natalie Abrams, the TV boss was asked whether there is a chance for the character to be the new head of the organization, to which he coyly answered with a tease of the possibility without committing the story to definitely go that way.

"We've hinted at it a bit, that Coulson thinks she can play more of a leadership role," he said. "We'll see how it goes, and where the story takes her. She's been through a lot so that usually turns someone from a rookie into a seasoned veteran, which is what you need to lead. We'll see if she steps up to the plate," he went on to say.

Should this be the case, the small screen iteration of the character will fulfill its comic book origins as the source material narrates that Daisy takes over S.H.I.E.L.D. after Nick Fury retires from the service. Obviously, the story cannot be translated piece by piece given the tweaks in the plot, but it will still be an intriguing arc for Daisy's return after her solo vigilante stint.

Meanwhile, aside from Daisy possibly getting more character development, this season's latest addition to "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." — Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna) — can still come back given his predicament in the winter finale. A tip from Lorenzo James Henrie who plays Robbie's brother, Gabe, has coyly teased about his onscreen bro's return for the rest of the season.

"I know some things. They are on a winter break right now, but all I know is, I'm pretty sure it's' not the end for Ghost Rider," the actor admitted in a conversation with FanFest. I know they have some things up their sleeves. It's gonna be sick."

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 4 is scheduled to be back with new episodes on Jan. 10 on ABC.
