In a couple of months, "Agents of SHIELD" season 4 will be opening with what is expected to be a much gloomier, tougher Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet), in the aftermath of her loss in the previous season's finale.

Johnson, who is also known as Quake and previously as Skye, went on the run after the devastating death of her boyfriend, Lincoln Campbell (Luke Mitchell). Agents Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Al MacKenzie (Henry Simmons) tried to look for her, as shown in the flash forward from the "Agents of SHIELD" season 3 finale six months hence. They were unsuccessful in finding her, though.

In the same episode last season, Campbell had no other choice but to offer his life just to save Johnson and destroy Hive, who was considered a very powerful villain. Hive had been Johnson's romantic interest back in the time when he was still Agent Grant Ward. After losing two men who she truly cared about in life, one after the other, it comes as no surprise that dark and difficult times are envisioned for Johnson in the next installment of "Agents of SHIELD."

She had foisted her exile on herself, and whether she would go back to Hive is something the team may not know.

As Bennet told Entertainment Weekly, "The two people who know she did that are both dead, so no one else knows."

Regarding Johnson's possible reasons for staying away, the actress said, "I think she feels like she can't get close to people because wherever she goes, death follows. That hit home with her, especially this time."

Bennet added that, after what Johnson has been through in life, she may decide to become more ruthless in her dealings. Having isolated herself, there is no one with her to help her go through what may be the most difficult time in her life.

What will be suspenseful is the possibility that "Agents of SHIELD" season 4 shall bring back a rogue in Johnson. The flash forward scene in the aforementioned finale gave a glimpse of the devastation she has brought as Quake.

"Agents of Shield" season 4 will premiere on Sept. 20.
