'Alien: Covenant' release date, news details, updates: upcoming sequel to be released earlier than expected
The upcoming movie "Alien: Covenant" has just released its first teaser poster, and anticipating fans are in for a big surprise as the release date for the movie is confirmed to be three months earlier than expected — opening on May 19, 2017, instead of an initial August 4, 2017 debut.
The poster only shows part of the alien's face, with the words "run," and the date of its theatrical release at the bottom part of the poster.
"Alien: Covenant" is the sequel to 2012's "Prometheus," which is also the prequel to the previous "Alien" movies. Directed by Ridley Scott, the film stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Demian Bichir, and Danny McBride. Noomi Rapace will also star in the movie to reprise her role in "Prometheus" as Dr. Elizabeth.
According to Scott, the premise of the movie will center on the crew of the Covenant ship, who thought that they landed on uncharted space territory. They did not expect, however, that David (Michael Fassbender), the lone inhabitant of the territory, is not exactly friendly. David is also the lone survivor of the previous Prometheus expedition.
Fassbender previously announced that he actually plays two roles in the movie — David, and a new version of the android named Walter.
"I am allowed to say I am playing two robots: Walter and David," he said, via AvP Galaxy. "I think what's great about it is that Ridley has gone back to the original DNA of Alien, the horror element of that."
The actor also added that "He is a machine. He is an incredible human being, and he was in such good form. He is such an imaginative and mischievous figure."
Meanwhile, some speculate that Guy Pierce will play a part in the upcoming sequel to reprise his role as Peter Weyland — the billionaire entrepreneur from "Prometheus," but this wasn't confirmed yet.
