Alienware 13 news, features, price update: Alienware releases VR-capable 13-inch laptop; Boasts OLED screen panel
Dell is known as the company that produces today's top-of-the-line laptops specialized in gaming. Just recently, Alienware unveiled a new 13-inch laptop that will further raise the bar of high-quality video gaming. The latest high-powered notebook, called the Alienware 13, boasts virtual reality (VR) support which is a first in this generation's gaming laptops.
The release of the Alienware 13 is probably the perfect timing due to the advent of virtual reality gaming. For the past few years, the public has seen the arrival of virtual reality headsets such as Google Daydream, Sony's PlayStation VR, and HTC Vive. Some of today's top game titles have also started to incorporate virtual reality features to bring the players' gaming experience to the next level. With Alienware 13's VR capabilities, gamers can now get their own virtual reality experience anywhere they go.
As reported by the Tech Times, Alienware 13's VR feature is made possible by the latest NVIDIA GTX 10 series graphics card. Specifically, the notebook is powered by NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5 and 8GB of DDR4 RAM. The Alienware 13's performance is boosted by the current sixth generation Intel Skylake chipset. The base model uses the Intel Core i5-6300HQ chip, powerful enough for highly efficient computer processing. The high-end variant, on the other hand, boasts an Intel Core i7 processor with up to 16GB RAM, although this will be a bit pricier than the base model's $1,199 price tag.
Moreover, the low-tier notebook offers 1,366 x 768 screen display, while the high-end model offers 1080p IPS display and a Quad HD display. Still, both Alienware 13 variants boast improve screen features due to the new OLED panel. According to PC World, the Alienware 13 is the first laptop from the company to adopt the OLED screen, leaving the traditional LCD-powered screen panel behind. Although the LCD screen still offers impressive visuals, the OLED screen boasts more vibrant visual presentation with no pixelated or washed out images. OLED screen also has richer colors than the LCD.
Regarding the Alienware 13's internal storage capacity, the laptop has up to 2TB of storage split into two. 1TB is reserved for the PCI express of solid state drive as a boot drive, while the other 1TB will be for general data storage.
