'Amazon Top Gear' news 2016: How did the presenters arrive at the name 'The Grand Tour'?
"The Grand Tour," the new show from Jeremy Clarkson and his fellow former "Top Gear" presenters James May and Richard Hammond, will air on Amazon Prime later this year to fulfill its promise of featuring in an even better way the car stunts and reviews that contributed to the success of the original "Top Gear" series. Clarkson shared how he and his team ended up naming their new series "The Grand Tour."
According to Clarkson, it took months of brainstorming before they reached a compromise with regard to the show title. Based on a short clip shared on the official Facebook page of "The Grand Tour," the team of presenters had to scrap one suggested title after another before they finally came to an agreement that "The Grand Tour" best suits and encompasses what the show will be all about and what it will have to offer and showcase.
Clarkson explained simply that the presenters will be traveling across the globe. They will be hosting one episode after another, each of which will be in a different country. Hence, it will be in many relevant ways a kind of "grand tour." From here on, Clarkson and the team decided not to go any farther and ultimately stick with the name "The Grand Tour."
Meanwhile, concerning the choice of broadcasting on Amazon Prime amid the other options the show had, "The Grand Tour" co-producer Andy Wilman said that the production does not like interference and that it does not need to be policed. It so happens that Amazon Prime can offer the show's production the freedom to operate and film as it pleases. Wilman said that everyone was telling them, "They leave you alone to make your show," referring to Amazon.
The new motoring series will be available to watch on Amazon Prime which is a worldwide video streaming service. Therefore, the show will be able to reach audiences beyond the UK borders. Its official date of debut has yet to be announced.
