'American Crime Story' season 3 cast news, plot, spoilers: Lady Gaga cast as Donatella Versace?

A famous pop singer will reportedly be debuting in the third season of "American Crime Story." Though the latest rumor hasn't been confirmed, Lady Gaga, who is now getting more acting roles, is expected to portray Donatella Versace in the upcoming season.

According to US Weekly, a source has confirmed with the publication that the singer-turned-actress will be portraying the fashion designer in season 3.

For the uninitiated, the upcoming season will focus on the murder of label founder Gianni Versace in his Miami Beach home in 1997. The content for the following season was based on Maureen Orth's "Vulgar Favours" novel.

At the show's panel during Entertainment Weekly's Pop Fest, executive producer Ryan Murphy revealed, "I was always very moved and freaked out by the Versace assassination, and I thought it was a really great story to do because it's a manhunt season," Murphy said. "[Serial killer Andrew Cunanan] killed four people and then Versace, and was on the loose. We're exploring the reasons of how he got away with being undetected," he added.

Furthermore, the network has yet to confirm the latest speculations, but it has announced that an A-list actor will be portraying the role of Gianni's sister. During the EW Pop Fest, the moderator suggested that the "Perfect Illusion" singer would be perfect for the role. With a big grin, Murphy replied, "Ya think?" Naturally, the audience went crazy over his response.

Lady Gaga recently launched her fifth studio album titled "Joanne." To add, the singer will be performing at the 2017 Super Bowl halftime. Aside from her hectic schedule as a singer, the pop sensation has engaged in various acting endeavors. She will be a part of the remake of "A Star is Born," along with actor Bradley Cooper.

"American Crime Story" season 3 is expected to air shortly after the end of season 2, which will focus on Hurricane Katrina. Production for both seasons will progress simultaneously next year, with two different batches of cast members.
