Grammy award-winning singer Lady Gaga is going to star in the upcoming fifth season of "American Horror Story," the anthology TV series that just finished its fourth season on FX with record ratings.

The singer, who recently wowed the audience with her performance at the Oscars, tweeted the news, and it was soon picked up by major news outlets, which provided more details about her role.

In her tweet, Gaga – whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta – indicated that she would be appearing it the fifth season which will be titled "American Horror Story: Hotel."

The title appeared to indicate that the show will be based inside a hotel – a shift from the fourth season which was based on the happenings inside a freak show. The Hollywood Reporter said it is still awaiting confirmation of Lady Gaga's role in the show's fifth season. However, several other news outlets reported that the singer will become a series regular.

While many cast members in "American Horror Story" have appeared in several seasons of the show, it looks like Lady Gaga will only play a character for one season because of the show's anthological format. This was the same format followed by "True Detective," which allowed top stars like Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson to appear only in the show's first season.

This will not be the first time that Lady Gaga will showcase her acting skills. She has landed minor roles in a few movies, most notably in "Men in Black 3" and "Machete Kills."

She had actually studied acting before she became a full-time singer.

Robert Rodriguez, who directed "Machete Kills," praised her performance, saying "the camera loves her. She's a great performer. She's performed twice for me now and I was blown away by her discipline."

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga has provided one of her songs to "Glee" and collaborated with Ryan Murphy, one of the creators of "American Horror Story," on that project
