'American Horror Story' season 7 news: Creator hints modern storyline; series scores two more seasons from FX

"American Horror Story" will revolve around a modern-day tale when the hit FX drama returns for season 7 this coming fall.

Fans may still be reeling from the previous season's madness, but a new cycle of mystery and speculation has started all over again. Before revealing details about the FX horror drama's new season, FX CEO John Landgraf delivered some exciting news for fans: "American Horror Story" has been renewed for two more seasons. This means that there are at least three more riveting stories to tell until 2019. Rumor has it that one of the future installments will be the hyped "AHS: Coven" and "AHS: Murder House" crossover previously teased by the creators, which is reportedly going to be "very bizarre."

As expected, the theme for next season is being kept under wraps. The show is notorious for misleading fans and keeping its theme a secret until the season kicks off. "It actually will be shrouded in super secrecy," Landgraf said. "Ryan has yet another really innovative idea for how to do something fresh and different with the franchise that audiences haven't seen before, and there's a marketing promotional hook around that," he added.

Creator Ryan Murphy was also present in the show's TCA panel, and he shared a bit of information about season 7. He revealed that the show will focus on a "modern-day story," adding that "AHS" stars Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson are the first cast members to join the new season. Several "Freak Show" characters are also set to be on board, and it is believed that they'll be appearing in flashbacks.

For the past five years, "American Horror Story" has consistently been a part of cable TV's top 5 scripted series for the year. In 2016, "Roanoke" ranked third among the 215 scripted cable series that aired that year.
