Android 7.0 Nougat HTC news update: unlocked models finally receives update, carrier ones to come after
It was recently reported that HTC users have been disappointed by the lack of news about the availability of Android 7.0 Nougat on their devices. While the company is gradually announcing some updates, there are speculations about what would happen in the near future.
Many Nexus owners are now enjoying what Android Nougat has to offer. Their gadgets reportedly are enjoying better battery life, a multiwindow feature and a lot of new attributes. HTC owners, on the other hand, are left in the cold, as there were reported bugs seen in their own Nougat version. This prompted the delay of Nougat to come to their devices.
It could be remembered that the Android N beta concluded in August 2016 and there were developer previews — two updates and a beta version — available. HTC previously stated that it will give updates within 90 days, or before 2017 starts. The company was able to fulfill its promise starting with the unlocked devices, and it is now working on the carrier models in the United States.
HTC also promised that three main HTC Android N software are already in the pipeline and so more are expected to come with the new software. This has been evident when HTC One A9 finally getting the Android 7.0 Nougat update.
HTC vice president for product management, Mo Versi, took it to Twitter to announce the good news. He posted, "HTC One A9 Unlocked Owners! We have received technical approval on the Nougat OS update, and OTA will begin tonight!"
The firmware was distributed via over-the-air means in the United States starting on Jan. 16.
As for owners of HTC One M9 and HTC 10, it is expected that the unlocked models will receive the firmware first. The carrier models may likely receive the updates a month after the unlocked models.
More updates for HTC devices are expected in a couple of days.
