Android L Release Date: Google to Launch Before the End of 2014
"Android L" is the name given by Google for the latest version of its mobile operating system.
It was revealed on June 25, 2014 and was launched in beta version for the Goole Nexus devices. The official dessert codename, such as that of Kitkat, Jelly Bean and other Android versions, has not been announced. It is however rumored to be "Lemon Meringue Pie".
Various sources also mention that Google is expected to release Android L before the year ends.
After the first release in June, a second developer preview build, called the LPV81C, came out August 7. However, it was made available only for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013.
Meanwhile, HTC has released an official statement about the Android L.
"HTC is excited about the new features in Android L and we can't wait to share them with our customers. We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible", the company announced.
"We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) in regions worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices", they added.
With that said, we can expect the latest Android mobile operating system to be released before Christmas.
Android L will feature a 'refreshed notification system'. Google wants it to improve battery consumption as well by optimizing the system and making it app-friendly. It also aims to improve the overall graphic functions for the benefit of 3D gamers.
