Apple iOS 10.1 release news, update: Portrait Mode and security fixes added
Apple's latest update, the iOS 10.1, is out and available for users with compatible iOS devices. For those who have not made the update yet, reports said that it's worth the try as it brings several changes.
As detailed on Apple's website, the highlight of the iOS 10.1 is the Portrait Mode. Unfortunately, this is only exclusive to iPhone 7 Plus users as this feature makes use of the device's dual rear camera setup. Users can capture stunning photos through the Camera app using both of the device's 12-megapixel cameras.
Upon taking the photo, one can expect the foreground subject to be sharp while the background is impressively blurred. This is all possible through the application of a depth-of-field effect, which is also known as "bokeh." This effect is only possible through a DSLR camera but with Apple's latest innovation, getting the "bokeh" effect is now possible through the smartphone.
Aside from the Portrait Mode, the iOS 10.1 update has brought along with it an important update and this time in the area of privacy. The update came with security fixes that are necessary for every iPhone user out there. Researcher Marco Grassi of Tencent's Keen Lab discovered that a hacker can take control of a device whenever the user views a corrupted image. The update has fixed this security vulnerability.
There are also fixes for Bluetooth connectivity with third party devices. A fix for people's names being saved in iCloud backups and a new option to replay Message effects have also been made.
To update to iOS 10.1, users have to head over to the Software Update in Settings and connect their device to a power source before tapping "Install Now." After the OTA file has been downloaded, the device automatically starts the update process and then reboots into iOS 10.1.
