'Apple Watch 2' release date, specs news: New smartwatch comes with enhanced waterproofing, extended battery life?

The first smartwatch from Apple was released more than a year ago and up to now, the company has not yet revealed its plans to update the Apple Watch's design. However, many tech enthusiasts speculate that 2016 will be the year of the Apple Watch 2, packing with features that will make the latest iteration more powerful and more durable as ever. 

The latest rumors suggest that the upcoming Apple Watch 2 will be one huge step ahead of the 2014 version in terms of durability. It is going to boast a special waterproofing technology that is much superior than its predecessor, according to a known tech analyst from KGI Securities, Ming Chi Kuo. If this turns out correct, the Apple Watch 2 will be the perfect smart gear to carry around anywhere, without the user worrying about getting the device exposed to moisture.

Aside from its protective exterior, the Apple Watch 2 is said to have a better battery capacity than the first version. Although, the other reported additional specs of the new smartwatch might balance things out and reduce the device to something that the user will have to charge every other time.

One of the rumored add-ons for the Apple Watch 2 is the built-in barometer and a GPS chip. These features just elevate the Apple Watch's status as the ideal device for an adventurous user who loves to travel a lot, although the bad side will be how much power these extra features will consume. A GPS chip is said to use up much of the gadget's power, and even if the battery life will be extended, the ending result may not be a far improvement than the first Apple Watch.

Meanwhile, Game N Guide reported that September could be the best bet for the arrival of the Apple Watch 2. It is because the first Apple Watch was released on the same day that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s were launched by Apple during the same special event in April last year. This year, the rumors are also rife that the iPhone 7 smartphones will be unveiled at the upcoming Apple event in September. It is possible that Apple will release their latest smart gear on the same day the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7s are released.
