Apple Watch vs Asus ZenWatch Specs, Price Review: Features Comparison - Close Competitors Face Off

With buzz growing on the imminent release of the Apple Watch, it's clear that the device is going to have a number of competitors as soon as it hits the ground. One of these is definitely the Asus ZenWatch, which has design and specs on par with the Apple Watch.

Design

The rectangular bodied Apple Watch comes in a variety of design options. It will be available in two basic sizes: 38mm and 42mm. The device will also have three major lines: the Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition. Materials used in making the watch will also differ according to the line. They range from aluminum, to steel and solid gold. As for its straps the device has leather, stainless steel and Fluoroelastomer versions which cannot be swapped out with any other standard strap.

The Asus ZenWatch is no pushover in spite of providing limited customization choices. It has a rectangular body made from stainless steel with a rose gold band around its edge. The default strap is made from brown leather but it can be switched with any standard 22mm strap as per the user's wishes. In terms of water and dust resistance, the Asus ZenWatch has an IP55 rating, which means it can only tolerate splashes of water but not full submersion. The Apple Watch can be worn while taking a shower, which means an IP67 rating.

Display

The display on the Asus ZenWatch measures 1.63 inches. It has an AMOLED screen with a resolution of 320x320 pixels and a density of 278 pixels per inch. As for the Apple Watch its smaller version will have a 1.32 inch retina display with a resolution of 240x272 pixels. Its bigger version will have a 1.5-inch retina display with a resolution of 390 x312 pixels. Both come with optional sapphire glass protection.

Specs

On the Apple Watch will be an Apple S1 chip with an entire computer system within. As for the Asus ZenWatch, it comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz along with 512 MB RAM and 4GB internal storage.

Features and Sensors

The Apple Watch has a number of apps, some of which work along with its sensors to measure the wearer's physical activity. Among its sensors is a heart rate monitor and accelerometer. As for the Asus ZenWatch it has a nine-Axis Bio sensor, which includes an accelerometer and gyroscope.

Price

The Asus ZenWatch is priced at $199. The Apple Watch Sport, which is the cheapest, is priced at $349. The Apple Watch is at $549 while the Apple Watch Edition costs $10,000.
