'Aquaman' release date, news: screenwriter says 'Aquaman' is going to be fun
The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is off to a rocky start. "Man of Steel," "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad" did well at the box office, but critics thought the films were too dark and brooding. Superman (Henry Cavill) was supposed to be a symbol of hope. He's basically the ultimate good guy, but longtime Superman comic book fans thought he went too far when he snapped Zod's (Michael Shannon) neck in "Man of Steel."
So far, DCEU films have been filled with gritty realism, but things are about to change when "Aquaman" hits the cinemas. In an interview with Collider, screenwriter Will Beale revealed that the film would have a lighter tone compared to the previous DCEU films.
"It's going to be fun, it's going to be really fun. What we've come up with and James [Wan] especially — he has a really clear idea of the tone he's going to have, and I think Aquaman is one that's going to blow people's minds, not just visually, but I think the story and the scope of it is really great," he stated.
Well, that's interesting. Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Jason Momoa) looked like he's angry all the time on the "Justice League" trailer, but it sounds like he's going to lighten it up a bit in his solo film.
Beale went on to talk about how technology has finally allowed them to make an Aquaman film. "What's interesting is that you couldn't have done it before. You know, you could do Batman in 1988, but now you have the technology, and it's going to be cool," he said.
Besides Momoa, the film will also star Amber Heard as Mera, and Patrick Wilson as Aquaman's half-brother Orm Marius aka Ocean Master. Director James Wan will be helming the film.
"Aquaman" is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 5, 2018.
