'Arrow' season 5 air date news: Will John Jr. grow up to be 2046's Connor Hawke?
Could the Legends have foreseen the inevitability of Flashpoint?
In the first episode of "Arrow's" companion series, "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," the Legends' quest for then main villain Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) took the ragtag band of heroes 30 years into the future to meet a new Green Arrow in the person of Connor Hawke (Joseph David-Jones), who was later revealed to be John Diggle's (David Ramsey) son, John Diggle Jr.
Before The Flash (Grant Gustin) manipulated the timeline to prevent his mother's death, thereby causing the Flashpoint timeline that his arch-nemesis, Reverse Flash (Matt Letscher), later fixed, subsequently leading to the current Earth-1 timeline wherein Diggle had a son named John Jr. instead of a daughter named Sara.
In a recent Spoiler Room update by Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Marc Guggenheim neither denied nor confirmed if the current timeline's John Jr. would later grow up to be the Conner Hawke that the Legends met in 2046.
"It's hard for me to honestly answer the question without committing to a version of time travel," Guggenheim said, further adding that even if they did decide to tell a story about John Jr. in the future, he doubted they would directly address its relation to the Flashpoint timeline.
Meanwhile, one "Arrow" character that does matter in the present timeline will be undergoing a significant shift in purpose when the show returns in January. Executive producer Wendy Mericle talked about Felicity Smoak's (Emily Bett Rickards) upcoming storyline following the death of her boyfriend, Det. Billy Malone (Tyler Ritter), during TV Line's in-depth 2017 Preview Q&A.
"One thing Felicity is not going to do, I can tell you for sure, is blame Oliver," Mericle said, further sharing that Felicity's vengeful anger will all be directed at this season's mysterious new enemy, Prometheus (Michael Dorn), and that her own personal vendetta is going to draw her away from Team Arrow and lead her down a "morally questionable" path.
"Arrow" season 5 will return to The CW on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 8 p.m. EST.
