'Arrow' season 5 air date, plot spoilers news: New heroes and villains teased in latest trailer for upcoming installment
Admittedly, the past season of "Arrow" performed way below fans and viewers' expectations, but "Arrow" season 5 promises to get back to basics in the hopes of rekindling fans' fascination with the show. The solution? Round up a new team of heroes.
As Oliver (Stephen Amell) assumes a new role as mayor of Star City, he is also moving, albeit not totally, from vigilante to mentor of new vigilantes. That much is evident in the latest extended trailer released by The CW for the DC series. In the new trailer, Ollie, as the Green Arrow, can be seen recruiting and discussing his new team of heroes.
The need for new vigilantes-in-training came about as former soldier John Diggle (David Ramsey) has decided to go back to the military while Thea Queen (Willa Holland), Oliver's vigilante-trained sister also known as Speedy, is only too willing to hang up her hood. Team Arrow is down to two members—Oliver and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards)—and with Oliver trying to fight for Star City's future on two fronts (as Green Arrow and Mayor Oliver Queen), new heroes are needed to step up and defend the city.
Check out the extended trailer below:
Front and center as Team Arrow's new recruit is Curtis Holt, a.k.a. Mister Terrific (Echo Kellum). He will finally hit the streets when "Arrow" season 5 premieres on Oct. 5.
As for season 5's villains, IGN got first dibs on Chad L. Coleman being cast as Anton Church. The outlet described the character as "an imposing gangster looking to unite the various criminal enterprises in Star City under his own singular command."
In a separate report, TV Line said the inspiration behind Church's character was Idris Elba's Stringer Bell on "The Wire." Their report calls Church "a ruthless crime lord who sets out to fill the sizeable void left by Damien Darhk and HIVE," as well as "an apex predator" looking to take down "the biggest threat first," with the threat being none other than Oliver.
"Arrow" season 5 will premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. on The CW with the episode, "Legacy."
