'Arrow' season 5 release date and spoilers: Show's 100th episode will bring someone back from the dead
The CW's DC Universe has big plans this year. Other than the four-hero crossover happening near the end of 2016, the first show in the franchise, "Arrow," will be hitting its 100th episode. The showrunners are planning something special for it and it looks like some characters will be returning from the grave.
"Arrow" executive producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed on Twitter that Jamey Sheridan is making a return to the show. Sheridan played Oliver Queen's (Stephen Amell) father Robert. He has long been deceased but it looks like he will have to come back this season. It is also said that his return will not be part of a flashback.
Aside from Sheridan's return, actress Katie Cassidy has confirmed on Facebook that she will also make a comeback this season. Fans will remember her as Laurel Lance aka Black Canary. She was one of the most devoted public servants of Star City before she was killed by Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough). Oliver made the public aware of her acts of heroism and the Black Canary mantle is engraved on her tombstone.
With the appearances from these characters, a lot of people are suspecting that time travel will be an essential element in their return. The event is said to fall right in the middle of the crossover between "Arrow," "The Flash" and "Legends of Tomorrow," so fans can expect some time travelling hijinks to occur.
As of 2016, Cassidy — much like Wentworth Miller (Captain Cold) — has signed a deal that has made her a series regular for all of The CW's DC shows. So aside from "Arrow," fans can expect an appearance from her in "The Flash" and "Legends of Tomorrow."
It will be a while before the crossover event happens but the "Arrow" season 5 premiere airs Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. EDT.
