Arrow season 5 spoilers: Felicity's grief to drive her away from her friends?
Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) will be in mourning when "Arrow" returns for the second half of season 5, but she will not stop until she gets her revenge.
In the midseason finale titled "What We Leave Behind," Oliver (Stephen Amell) accidentally killed Felicity's new beau Billy (Tyler Ritter) when he was tricked to believe that he was Prometheus (voiced by Michael Dorn). While this definitely broke Felicity's heart, showrunner Wendy Mericle told TVLine that she will not blame her ex-fiancé for her loss. "She recognizes the manipulations that have led to this situation," Mericle stated.
The showrunner also teased that Felicity has no one to blame but Prometheus himself, and she will turn into a different person in order to make the mysterious vigilante pay for killing Billy. However, she will not be alone in her quest. According to Mericle, Felicity will meet several people who are both tied to her past and the future that she wants to be in. Yet working with those people will come with some repercussions. "That's going to draw her away from the team and lead her to do some things that are pretty morally questionable," Mericle added.
Meanwhile, Felicity also has to deal with Laurel Lance's (Katie Cassidy) return in Star City. According to reports, Laurel could further drive Oliver and Felicity apart because the latter believes that Oliver's other former lover is up to no good.
In a Facebook Live Q&A post from TVLine regarding the plot of "Arrow" season 5, editor Matt Mitovich claimed that Felicity will become very skeptic about Laurel's return to Oliver's life this season. According to Mitovich, Oliver will be very happy to have Laurel back even if she turns out to be a villain or not. But he and Felicity will have some falling out because she wants to protect him from the possible pain that Laurel could cause him.
The CW will air the midseason premiere of "Arrow" season 5 on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017.
