'Arrow' season 5B spoilers: Is Laurel's alter-ego reveal just a twist toward another huge reveal?

The DC TV series spectacle treated "Arrow" fans with a glimpse of what could have been Oliver's (Stephen Amell) life had he not been gone for years prompting his return to be the city's vigilante. His parents are alive and he is even engaged to be married to Laurel (Katie Cassidy). While in the end, that seemingly perfect facade was nothing more than just a facade, the show follows up on the recent events of reviving the dead with the tease that Laurel may in fact really be alive.

Toward the end of the winter finale of the superhero series, Oliver found himself face to face with what seemed to be Laurel in the flesh inside the lair. So, just how did this whole resurrection thingy happen? Some answers for the budding mystery are somehow provided in the recently released promo clip for "Arrow's" midseason premiere, which suggest that the new Laurel is in fact Black Siren from Earth-2. Rumors have been rampant in the past couple of weeks regarding this theory and it may actually be the case in terms of where The CW is taking the show's narrative with Laurel's return.

Piecing everything together, because of "The Flash's" Flashpoint storyline, the timeline reset resulted in Earth-1 Laurel eventually becoming Black Siren. Intriguingly, however, just why would "Arrow" decide to spill an arguably huge twist early on and even before the episode? Long-time fans are theorizing that the already convoluted storyline is just the tip of the iceberg and a bigger reveal is tipped to come out once the installment rolls out.

Meanwhile, on top of Laurel, Oliver's time will also be occupied by his new lady friend, Susan (Carly Pope), who arguably has been cozying up on the unconventional superhero a lot more recently. However, despite their budding relationship, co-showrunner Wendy Mericle clarified that the two has yet to jump into bed together.

"They're going to go 'all in' [on the relationship] at some point, for sure. But one of the things that's interesting about [Susan] is that they do have a genuine relationship — she really does care about Oliver, and vice versa — and yet she has been on this track of trying to find out who he is and what he's up to. And not just as the mayor, but beyond that," she explained to TVLine. Some viewers originally perceived that the couple went all the way after engaging in a kiss last episode which in turn drew some flak especially just after Oliver has accidentally killed Felicity's (Emily Bett Rickards) boyfriend.

"Arrow" season 5 is scheduled to return on Jan. 25.
