'Assassin's Creed' movie premiere date, news: Michael Fassbender speaks about doing his own stunts; final trailer revealed

"Assassin's Creed" premieres in just a few days, and the final trailer for the film adaptation of Ubisoft's action-adventure franchise has been released.

The new trailer spans 2 minutes as it establishes the story all video gamers know by now. The story setup is similar to the original "Assassin's Creed" game, except the lead character (present day) is Callum Lynch and not Desmond Miles. In addition, the events are set not in the Holy Land in the 12th Century, but during Spanish Inquisition.

Aside from the eye-popping trailer, Fox also released a minute-long excerpt from the movie. It features Lynch (Michael Fassbender) during his first day at Abstergo school as he sits in the lunchroom with Moussa (Michael Kenneth Williams). The short teaser doesn't give out any spoilers about anyone's backstory because it appears to happen early in the film, likely before Lynch encounters the Animus.

As part of its promotion, "Assassin's Creed's" stars and director recently appeared on an Xbox livestream to talk about the film and their hopes for its success. Fassbender revealed that he, along with costar Ariane Labed, performed almost all of their stunts. In terms of how the story is told, the actor added that the film — despite being an adaptation — will take gaming fans to a new experience.

"On screen is a different experience, of course. As a gamer, you go into a world, and it's your world. You enter a universe and you decide where to go," Fassbender says. "In this film, we're presenting a universe and you're somewhat of a passenger."

"Assassin's Creed" brand director Azaizia Aymar was also present during the interview, and he is very optimistic about the movie's outcome. Aymar believes that it will be a "milestone" film because it will be the first time that a "video game studio creative works with movie creatives altogether to share a vision and give them the tool to express themselves."

Also starring Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons, "Assassin's Creed" hits theaters on Dec. 21.
