After years of waiting, "Attack on Titan" season 2 is finally confirmed to premiere in April 2017.

According to a report by Anime News Network, the anime's release date was first revealed on the "Attack on Titan" manga series' wraparound jacket band for its 21st volume. Although it was previously announced that the series might premiere in spring 2017, this serves as the final confirmation of the second season that has suffered from numerous delays.

For the uninitiated, it has been two years since season 2 was confirmed and three years since the final episode of season 1 aired in Japan. Moving towards its second run, the series will undergo a behind-the-scenes changeup. Tetsuro Araki, who served as a director in season 1, will now serve as the chief director, while former episode director Masashi Koizuka has been promoted to director for the whole season.

"Attack on Titan" follows the story of Eren Yeager, who decides to join the military after witnessing his mother get devoured by a giant cannibal-like humanoid known as a titan. However, a surreal discovery leads Eren to embark on a mission to learn about his past and how the titans came to existence.

The anime series' first season premiered in April 2013, and it had a total of 25 episodes that culminated in September. The scheduled April release for season 2 corroborates with an earlier report from Crunchyroll that claims an early 2017 launch for the show. Also, both Funimation and Crunchyroll will likely simulcast the sophomore season similar to what they did when the program first aired in Japan.

During the show's long hiatus, an "Attack on Titan" third-person action game by Koei Tecmo was released in August for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A two-part live-action film adaptation of the original manga was also released last year, but unfortunately, it received mostly negative feedback from fans.
