The long-awaited sequel to James Cameron's "Avatar" will begin film productions soon. Meanwhile, plot details remain scarce, but it has been said that a whole new world will be explored in "Avatar 2."

Almost eight years after "Avatar" hit theaters, a production date has been set for the anticipated sequel this coming Aug. 15, and filming locations are expected to be in New Zealand — where most of the filming happened in the first film — and California. The film will also be directed by Cameron, but plot details for "Avatar 2" still remain scarce.

According to My Entertainment World, the sequel will be following Jake (Sam Worthington) in his new life with the Na'vi people.

"Jake Sully permanently transfers his consciousness to his Na'vi avatar and begins a new life with Princess Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) after they defeat the human colonizers," the synopsis posted on Comicbook reads.

Cameron and his team are doing a great job at keeping plot details a secret, as no rumors about the upcoming film are circulating. However, according to Worthington, "Avatar 2" will be placed in the future where Sully now has children with Princess Neytiri.

The lead actor adds that "Avatar 2" is worth the wait and that it "will make the first massive blockbuster look tiny."

Fans can anticipate that Cameron will be including new worlds to explore and discover in "Avatar 2." Worthington shared that the director is "extremely smart in not only increasing the world of the film and the experience of the film but also what the movie is actually about, which is family."

Worthington praised Cameron and adds that he knows what he wants to achieve with the sequel. The actor also said that based on Cameron's previous films, a lot can be expected from the upcoming "Avatar 2" film.

"Avatar 2" is expected to premiere on Dec. 21, 2018.
