Avengers 2 Age of Ultron Release Date, Latest News: Robert Downey Jr. Tweets Poster of Iron Man, 'Big Announcement'

Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man in the latest poster of 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron' | MARVEL

With the excitement on the forthcoming release of "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" continuing to mount, actor Robert Downey, Jr. has revealed a new poster that puts the highlight on his character Iron Man.

In a tweet, Downey posted a caption on a poster of himself as Iron Man who appears to be crouched in a heap of burning rubble with his helmet removed. A group of enemy robots seems to be flying towards him.

"You've been good so here's a new #IronMan poster from @Avengers. & on the DL, big announcement in 8 days," the actor said, using the hashtag #getexcited.

What the big announcement will be about is anybody's guess.

Since Downey has already signed on for "Captain America: Civil War," fans have ruled out an announcement on the actor keeping his part for up to five years more.

Unless Downey is still ready to play the part of Iron Man even when he reaches 55 years old, fans also don't think the announcement will be about the news of a fourth Iron Man movie in 2020.

"It's possible that the big announcement will be more generally Marvel-oriented than Downey Jr.-specific, which opens up a number of opportunities: Will the studio announce the identity of the next Spider-Man or another future lead?" The Hollywood Reporter asked.

"Captain Marvel and Black Bolt are both up for grabs, although Vin Diesel has hinted that the latter role belongs to him," the report added.

The big announcement, which will be revealed on March 6, may also be about another trailer for "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" that could finally feature Vision, who has been so far obscured in official art from the movie.

The math on that last one works out: If the revelation is in eight days' time, the wait could be filled with character posters for Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Nick Fury, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.

"The Avengers: Age of Ultron" will be released on May 1.
