'Avengers 4' news: 'Ant-man and the Wasp' star Evangeline Lily confirms appearance in movie
As of now, Marvel Studios is focused on "The Avengers: Infinity War" which comes out in 2018, but fans are also aware that there will be a fourth "Avengers" movie down the line. Evangeline Lilly, who played Hope Van Dyne in "Ant-Man," talked about her role as the Wasp and her part in "Avengers 4."
In an interview at the New York Comic-Con last week, Blastr caught up with Lilly to ask her about her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
She said, "There's an 'Avengers' series coming out, I believe it's a two-parter, and the Wasp won't be in the first part. She'll be in the second part because they want to preserve that reveal for 'Ant-Man and the Wasp.'"
"The Avengers: Infinity War" was originally split into two parts before Marvel decided that it should be the name of only the first film, so "Avengers 4" is currently untitled.
"Ant-Man and the Wasp" is set for release after "Infinity War" so it made sense that the studio wants her reveal to be saved for that movie.
Lilly also talked about "Ant-Man and the Wasp" and how the movie will serve as an origin for her superhero alter ego.
She said, "It's essentially going to be the origin of the Wasp. Of course, we're going to see the Wasp for the first time take on the mantle, and put on the suit and fly about and do her thing."
Fans got a look of the Wasp suit during the mid-credits scene of "Ant-Man," but they never really got to see it in action. Aside from her ability to shrink, the Wasp can also fly, unlike Ant-Man — but maybe she can't transform into a giant version of herself, like Ant-Man did in "Captain America: Civil War."
"Avengers 4" is set for a release on May 3, 2019. Meanwhile, "Ant-Man and the Wasp" will come out on July 6, 2018.
